Blurb:

When it comes to dragons, there’s no such thing as safe.
I learned that the hard way when my kith and kindred were slaughtered right before my eyes.
Everyone thinks the wyverns and the sorcai did it, but I know the truth.
I’ve been hiding from The Horde ever since, existing under their radar, surviving.
And then one day, they find me…he finds me. Aeson Noctis, the king’s second son and my new captor.
Aeson thinks he can force me back to Paragon City. He thinks he can use me and claim my power for his own.
But the dragons should’ve been more careful about who they let inside their city. I’m not some weak little pawn. I’m here looking for answers.
I’m here looking for revenge.
When it comes to dragons, there’s no such thing as safe. I know because I am one, and now I’m going to make The Horde pay for what they’ve done.
They thought they killed all the Syphons.
They thought they hunted down every one.
They thought wrong.

INTRO:

I just finished the book, and omg, I need the next one asap!

Worldbuilding:

Our worldview is slowly but surely building. We’re piecing everything together right alongside Ever as she navigates these new environments and encounters the major players. We’re still a long, long way from having the full picture, but it is an important part of Ever’s journey, so we’ll get a better feel for the world over the course of the series.

I had a bit of a slow start (totally on me; my brain was being stubborn). But once I got past those first few chapters? I was fully immersed and rooting for our characters.

Character development:

Enver is one of the last Syphons, dragons that can (either temporarily or permanently) take away other dragons’ abilities. When we meet her, she’s running from blood brokers, those that tortured her and harvested her blood for whatever reasons, and ends up right in the arms of The Horde. More importantly, Aeson Noctis, commander and scion of the dragons.
Her past is marked by significant trauma, and she’s been in hiding ever since, trying to fit all the puzzle pieces of that fateful day and how to help her people.

Aeson Noctis, second son of the King of the dragons, feels an instant connection to our little spitfire, and while suspicious of any subterfuge, he can’t stay away from her.
He offers his assistance but requires her secrets in return. Yeah, I didn’t think it would be that easy either.

Their relationship is a hate/love one, though hate might be a bit too much. Anger? Yeah, sure, but no hate.
I love their interactions, the tension, the push and pull. And while the end result may be obvious to us readers, the way is far from easy (their communication, for one, is a tad lacking, lol).
But yeah, I think they’re one of my favorite couples so far this year 😀

As for the other characters, they are AMAZING! I mean, we have Lorn, the compassionate older prince who was close to her family. But Aeson’s Wing absolutely takes the cake in this book.
They are relentless, stubborn, and vigilant (all traits of the prince, to be fair), but they’re also so full of fun and banter! I loved them, well, Tove, maybe not so much, but the rest—hell yes!
I want them as my own, seriously! Overall, the characters are fleshed out and well-written. They feel alive and add depth to the story.

Pacing & Flow:

The pacing and flow are really good, with a good balance between action and dialogue that moves the story forward smoothly.
It was a lengthy book, but time flew by because it just draws you in and keeps you in its clutches until the end, at which point, you’re painfully aware that the next book is still a long while away.

The book itself:

The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors, and I would rate the spice level a 3 out of 5, with the promise of so much more.
It is 521 pages long, with 46 chapters from Ever’s perspective and a bonus chapter from Aeson’s.

There is a bit of a cliffhanger for those wondering, but it’s not such a bad one.
It was certainly a call to start the next book, but unfortunately, we’ll need to wait a bit for that.

Final Thoughts:

I loved the drama, the pull towards each other, the secrets, the banter, and, not to forget, dragons! Love, love, love!
