Brought into a world I never planned on coming to, I have to struggle to survive or die like so many others around me.
I find shelter, safety, and friendship among the women of the Sanctuary. But they can’t protect me from the dragons of King Edkhar’s Court or from the king himself.
I can’t trust anyone in the castle, not even Elex. His life is tied to the king, who is the most despicable man among the gargoyles.
A war is raging in Dakath, and I don’t belong on either side of it. But as the only human in the kingdom where everyone turns to stone from sunset to sunrise, I may have an advantage still. And I will need to use everything I have to protect those I love.
There is an incredible power that lies inside me—the power of human love.
We continue right where we left off in the previous instalment. Amber has been living with the salamandras ever since she got through the portal, fearing that she would be discovered. However, they are all summoned by the King, and staying hidden will be much more challenging.
Especially when she sees Elex, who is doing good for himself as the King’s favourite.
How will our lovely couple get out of this mess?
The scenes and environments were clear and well-detailed. I love the world the author has created, with each race their kingdom and so many stories to tell!!
Amber hasn’t had an easy time since she came to Nerifir. Separated from Elex, all her hair forcibly removed, having to work hard for a single meal a day and then watching a good friend get taken by the dragons and another one giving up on life because of it. It has marked her deep within.
I feel that, throughout these two books, Amber has matured a lot emotionally. She’s no longer the relatively naïve woman we saw at the start but rather a woman who is training to get stronger to protect the ones she cares about.
Elex, on his part, is struggling with being so close to a king he despises but can’t do anything about since he’s needed for history to happen, as he learned. When he sees Amber, he quickly realises he made some pretty big mistakes and will have to do a lot of work to right them all, if he can.
I love Elex. He is both compassionate and righteous and well… if that’s not enough, he’s hot as hell, quite literally 😀 He has some big decisions to make in this book, but above all, he needs his spark back at his side.
Characters were well fleshed out with enough backstory to know them and feel emotionally invested in what was going on.
Very smooth reading. I read it in pretty much one session, and it was just really well-written throughout.
The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There is sexual content described (if that is important to you).
It has 280 pages, spread over 27 chapters and is told from both Ambers and Elex’s points of view.
I have to say, I love this duet format. You know there are only two instalments, and everything will be resolved at the end.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, and it was an enjoyable and smooth read from start to finish. I loved the story and the characters, and I can’t wait for the next book by the author! 😀
